I watched Adventure's in the Sin Trade I&II tonight. I was struck by how subtexty they were, despite the awful lack of Gabrielle in them. Xena's anguish over her death, when she is burning the body of that Amazon, was heart wrenching! I was like, ok, you do NOT mourn like that over a friend. I mean, in real life you might, but...it looked on the show like someone whose heart and soul had just been ripped away. I didn't see Xena mourn Marcus that way, it was not even quite the same as mourning Solan. Just an observation. I also liked her "She's the ONLY friend," comment. I'm still not a huge fan of those 2 episodes, I'm not sure why. It was pretty gruesome with the killing of horses and humans, drinking blood, and all the chanting and dancing and spirits flying around...it was kinda weird. I also don't get why it's called Adventure's in the Sin Trade. Does anyone else know? I do like the little furry ewok Amazons. They are cute. Oh and evil Xena-always a pleasure to watch. She is just so beautiful when she is bad. It was fun watching Cyane and Xena fly through the trees, that's a great scene. Anyway I was just lonesome for our forum and thought I'd see if I could start a topic up. Any other thoughts on AITST?

[Yes I actually like SP] Xena's anguish is so heart wrenching. Very very subtexty despite there being a distinct lack of Gab in them. Though i'm not really big on the storyline about all northern Amazons.. although Cyane is smokin' frickin' hot.. And I do love Alti

I think another thing that surprised me was Gabrielle's ghostly floating moment, I was never sure if she was reaching out to Xena like she did in the ring trilogy, or if it was Alti's illusion. Ether way Ati was desperate to know who Gabrielle was.

Posts: 13 (12/03/07 4:11 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I liked Sacrifice, A family affair and Soul possesion (yes I also love this episode) but AITST, not really my kind of ep, because I don't like the past episodes.I loved how Xena wanted to search Gabby and do whatever she could to see her again, but it's just too many flashbacks. but I love the whole idea of the arc, just too many flashbacks. and yes, I love love love Soul Possession (don't kill me)

I usually like darker storylines and as a subber I find Xena's reaction to Gabby's death here to brutal and heart wrenching. It's one of my favorite subtext moments. Without Gab Xena didn't revert back to her evil Xena ways, like Gabby feared. She fell completely apart. I think that's what the flashbacks showed the most. Not how that was Xena but how Gabrielle had changed her so markedly that even with her gone, Xena was still such a different person. A better person. Though there is a severe lack of Gabby appearances in this ep, I think it's a good Xena/Gab episode. Now I want to go rewatch it.... Posts: 20 (12/04/07 11:53 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I just love the bit were Xena see's the vision, and through seeing Gabrielle is still alive is able to find the strength to defeat alti it was a key subtext moment for me, probably only second to 'The Quest' when I went 'wow' and saw something really spectacular and interesting there. The two episodes are pretty weak in many ways and probably could've been summed up in one episode, but I do love Xena's desperation, her mourning and the way that just even a sniff of Gabrielle being alive - even if she is going to die again, completely changes Xena's outlook.

Otere and Yakut, are among my favorite charcters (I prefer them to the "Greek" Amazons); I like Alti as a villainess a lot [which means I dislike her and want to see her get her comeuppance-many times]; and I like how Xena takes on the task of helping those she has wronged { wronged a hell of a lot more than some others, e.g., Higuchians}; and yes, I like the vision and how she deals with it. I agree that one of the attractions is that Xena doesn't revert to EX, she helps. Otere-Sheeri Rappaport Yakut-Kate Elliott a pair of fine actresses. I like also the way they matched grown-up Otere to the child, who says not a word in either segment. I like the way Yakut tests Otere, and the glare Otere gives her while holding her nose.

Or at least thats my reason it may not be correct. But also one might say that a lot of the events that were in there were sinful or something..... Maybe....

The Black Market on Power with sin as currency. Adventures in the Sin Trade. Or so was my impression.

Oddly, the book, by a scriptwriter (Goldman?) was simply on moviemaking and the scriptwriter.
