When Is It Not Subtext?

So for a while now, I've been marveling that subtext could be considered subtext. Yes, I understand others have different ideas and I do respect their right to them. However, I wonder what they'd have to do on the show for it not to be considered subtext anymore. I mean it seems to me that no matter what they did, there'd be some far fetched circumstantial explanation. As in "Well she had to kiss her so that Beowulf would finally leave her alone!" Kisses and Hugs

I was thinking about how much I love all the smaller loving moments Xena and Gabrielle had on the show. You know, a kiss on the cheek, a kiss on the forehead, a kiss on the hand. And all those hugs. Somehow those mean more to me than the "big" kissing moments like the Quest, FIN, etc.

I have many pics of those but I want to see more! So please, share your picture's of the two in loving embraces or kisses. Let's limit ourselves to a few pics per post, since I know...

Well, since the Shipper area already had posts I felt I should start one in the subtext forum! I watched Adventure's in the Sin Trade I&II tonight. I was struck by how subtexty they were, despite the awful lack of Gabrielle in them. Xena's anguish over her death, when she is burning the body of that Amazon, was heart wrenching! I was like, ok, you do NOT mourn like that over a friend. I mean, in real life you might, but...it looked on the show like someone whose heart and soul...
